Kasbah Oulad Othman

The road from Ouazazate to Boulmes El Dades is known as the "Route des Kasbahs" but there are probably more in the Draa valley. Many are restored as "Kasbah Hotels" and of course in the towns many hotels are built to mimic them. Most are off the road in the Palmerie on piste.
We visited the Kasbah Oulad Othman about half way to Zagora. It was built in the 17th century by a Yemani Caid and has been lovingly restored by his direct descendants who still live there. Half is open as a museum. The other half is lived in and there are a couple of Chambre D'Hotes which were not avaliable when we visited.
There was and interesting door with 5 knockers of different pitches to sound the differing prayer times

and separate men's and women's mosques

but undoubtedly the best bit was the view from the roof over the Draa Valley and palmerie. The contrast from looking west across barren rock and sand to looking east to the river and date palms was intense.
