The Phoenix Mosque

The other piece of news we didn't report last May was the fire at Taroudant Grand Mosque on May 11th. We were so recoovering from our atipodeal adventure we didn't really notice the effect at the time but on this visit we noticed the hole in the wall so you could see in , scaffold and building work immediately. The mosque was seriously although only partially damaged by the fire which started from an electrical fault setting fire to the carpet.
King Mohammed is himself funding the restoration in his role as Commander of the Faithful. The condition is that work must be completed by 2015. As mosques are generally closed to non-believers i did not sneak a phooto through the hole in the wall but copied from another public website.
